Grumpy Lizard

Posted by campbell January 8th, 2011

This lizard is based (mighty loosely) on the Kings Skink.
Apparently this animal has a primarily carnivorous diet while in early life, but as it ages switches to be more vegetable oriented, which I think is pretty amazing. It makes me think of wild young punks turning to Buddhism in later life.

Two more creatures for my bestiarum.
Another jelly plant and a fire fueled rock, charging through the undergrowth, collecting leaf litter. The rock creatures were partially inspired by Leaf Litter Bugs that we have at work. They just eat dried up leaves and live in the undergrowth of bush land. Mighty little composters doing their part.

Two more creatures from the series, a small shifty dog, and some starry starry mushrooms.
Are these things to scale with one another? Who knows…

Two more critters. A stone sentry with an inset sapphire and a small bush creature.

I imagine them having very course fur with large feathery protrusions around its tail and head. These would be in the shape and colour of a foliage type in its habitat. When resting or hiding it would curl the feathers around its body, little legs sticking out the bottom, looking like a shrub. If startled it would uncurl its feathers, revealing the violent colours within, vibrating them and running around. A herd of these guys would be amazing, disturbing what appears to be a lush pocket of greenery only to see it flee off in a burst of colour and chirping.

I’ve cut a whole stack of watercolour paper in to squares to use as warm up sheets when I sit down at the desk. If I get one crap drawing out of the way first thing, then that’s one less crap drawing I will do that day.

While this is in part, another in my seemingly endless series of side projects, it will work it’s way in to other things and build up to something… I hope.
